Jeffrey Mechling was raised in a family full of secrets. His maternal grandfather was thought to be an agent in the OSS and made several trips to Germany before WW2. Although Mechling’s grandfather was never known to have served in the military, he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with the rank of Major. To this day no one knows why. A number of other Mechling family members and friends seemed to have jobs with the United States Government that they “just could not talk about”. “This all seemed normal to me” Mechling once said in an interview. For instance he recalls knowing that celebrity chef Julia Child was an agent with the OSS during WW 2 long before that information became public. “I just thought that was common knowledge” Mechling said. Mr. Mechling is himself an Analysis with a not so secret government agency and is married to the artist Kathleen Ryder. They reside in Northern Virginia. The Adults in the Room followed by The Safe House are Mechling's first and second novels.
